#Different Minds Talk
We invite a guest who lives or has lived inside a culture — and knows it from the inside. Not from a guidebook. From everyday life.
Mexico is the country everyone thinks they know. They don't.
You've seen the tacos and the tequila. You've heard about Day of the Dead. But the real Mexico — how people think, speak, argue, love, and say "no" without ever saying it — is something else entirely.
On July 9th, we're talking to Leticia Medina: a Mexican-born PhD researcher who grew up inside the culture and now watches it from the outside, living right on the US–Mexico border in San Antonio, Texas. That's exactly the perspective we need.
Host Alyona Alekseevskaya – a linguist, hedonist in education, founder at English Talks Club
  • What "ahorita" really means — hint: it's not "right now"
  • Why Mexican politeness is its own art form
  • What Día de los Muertos actually says about how Mexicans see life — and death
  • Why family in Mexico isn't just family. It's everything.
  • What it does to your identity when you live between two cultures
  • Whatever you've always wanted to ask — live, in English, with someone who grew up inside the culture
Meet Leticia
She's coming to English Talks Club to share the Mexico that no tourist brochure ever mentions.
  • Leticia Medina
Leticia Medina is a Mexican-born PhD researcher based in San Antonio, Texas — right on the US–Mexico border. She grew up inside Mexican culture and now observes it from the outside, which gives her something most insiders don't have: perspective.

Who is this for

Entrepreneurs, executives, consultants, and specialists who want to keep their English sharp — and spend an evening with people worth talking to. B1+ means everyone in the room speaks English — from confident intermediate to fluent. No slow explanations, no basic vocabulary. Just a conversation.
